Foldable Windshield Confirmed
The rumours are true and the new 2018 Jeep Wrangler comes with a foldable windshield. All it takes is the removal of the wipers (a plastic cap and a bolt each side) and four bolts holding the windshield into its frame. This compares favourably to the hour or more it would take an experienced and well-equipped mechanic to do this on the prior model.
Inventive Principle 1 – Segmentation: Make an object easy to disassemble
Taking an onerous task and simplifying it is an obvious convenience improvement. Less obvious is the benefits it pays in repeatability. This is likely to lowering Jeep warranty claims and ill will when parts don’t go together as desired after disassembly. It is also likely to pay safety dividends, when Jeep owners can restore their windshields to upright orientation reliably.
