Kickstarter project
We can safely say this Kickstarter project is a success, with $115,000 pledged on an original goal of $11,000. Can the 40 Principles help us identify any innovations here?
Integrated 1oz measuring lines
The Duo Glass has raised lines on its inner surface to make accurate cocktail measurement possible. These are in 1oz steps. This is similar in purpose to the lines on the ubiquitous Solo Cups that show standard measurements for spirits, wine and beer.
This is a great example of Principle 6 – Universality, making something accomplish the purpose of another thing (in this case a shot glass) so that the other thing is no longer required.
Double wall insulated
Drinks are kept cold (or hot) inside the Duo Glass thanks to its double wall design. This prevents condensation and also means that the inside shape can be different from the outside shape. The inside has a round cross section while the outside has a beveled square cross section making it comfortable to hold. Principle 7 – Nested Doll
Ice ball ready
The Duo Glass is considerably smaller on the inside than the outside due to its double wall construction. This means that it won’t hold many ice cubes. To address this and provide the lasting cooling that only ice can give (Principle 36 – Phase Transition), this Kickstarter team include a mold that makes a ice ball that fits neatly at the bottom of the glass.
