A girl walks into a bar (of chocolate)
If you have ever used a rotary phone you probably remember this Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup commercial featuring a girl walking down the street with an open jar of peanut butter, as one did in 1981.
If not you probably imagined The Family Guy made it up. Now get off my lawn.
The trick here is Hershey put peanut butter (gooey but hard to handle) inside a chocolate (easier to handle, particularly with the waxy chocolate we have in North America) – a classic example of Principle 7 – Nested Doll.
But wait, there’s more
Hershey also came up with the confection in the picture above. Taking Nesting to the next level, they’ve crammed Reese’s Pieces into their Peanut Butter Cup.
