“What happens at the extremes?”
Buffet and fast food restaurants maximize their value propositions. On the other hand niche eateries (craft, artisinal, organic etc) will offer small portions at high prices.
A slider is just the answer to the question, “Can we charge more per pound for ridiculously small burgers?”
What happens with you take a property of the product or service to an extreme? Larger, smaller, hotter, colder, etc.
